How we can help

Our leak detection survey uses the latest nonintrusive techniques for surveying underground pipework. It will typically combine manual and electronic detection methods to help identify problems.
Manual checks might involve:

  • visual inspections
  • valve checks
  • step testing.
While some typical electronic methods include:
  • correlators
  • ground microphones
  • data loggers.
Once we find the leak we can help with a full repair service, up to and including full mains renewal.

Leak Detection

An underground leak can go undetected "regardless of size".
Your meter is read approximately every 90 days.

It can be 130 days before you become aware of a high bill!

Small service leaks average in the range of 200 ltrs/hr to 800 ltrs/hr.
At 200 ltrs/hr the cost can be between € 640 and € 960 per quarter.
At 800 ltrs/hr the cost can be between € 2500 and € 3800 per quarter
This equates to between € 2500 and € 15400 p.a.

The average size burst on a 4" main is 7m3/ per hr but this can be as high as 30m3 or 40 m3 per hr and not show up!
At the lower end 7 m3 per hr is equal to € 15120 on your bill.

Pressure Management

Excessive pressure is directly related to the frequency of "burst rate" and volume lost. We provide a pressure management service.

Metering

You may require additional metering for management or revenue purposes. This must be done with an understanding of both meter sizing and design layout to ensure accuracy. Water Management and correct system design is a cost effective management tool.

Water Audit

We can measure water usage very accurately over extended periods of time (usually one week) to enable assessment of both leakage and wastage on your system. Our flow logging and report provides you with a picture of system performance together with the flow data. This is an essential management tool as it provides you with a key measure of how much your water leakage and wastage is costing you. This cost is the primary consideration that most businesses would use when determining how much they should invest in water management initiatives. Most water meters have electronic pulsed output to enable flow-logging to be undertaken. Magnetic flow meters determine water flow by disturbance to their electromagnetic field. These tend to be employed on large bore pipe work. Flow loggers can be hard wired to your desk top PC to provide you with constant access to your flow data. In more remote locations meter data transmission via'phone lines is possible. We supply and install a full range of water meters and loggers and can advise upon the most effective place to install them.

Logging

We can provide daily, weekly and/or monthly logging of your demand profile. This can be done either manually or remotely.

Detailed Reports

Detailed reports specific to each individual client are created and tailored to requirements and corporate formats. Manipulation of the site data allows easy understanding with cost justified proposals for remedial works. Whether the problem is associated with underground pipework and infrastructure or internal plumbing, a range of services is offered to effect repair.

Mapping Your System

This involves using electronic tracing equipment, including Radio Signal Induction and Ground Penetration Radar to identify the position of the underground utilities / watermains. Where applicable the watermain pipework connectivity will be further confirmed by flow and pressure "step-testing" and acoustic detection methods such as Noise Correlators and Ground Microphones.

The findings from the survey are clearly marked on the ground, recorded by digital photographs and updated manually onto an existing hardcopy site layout map. The data gathered during fieldwork can also be electronically recorded using GPS equipment and updated on to digital Ordinance Survey maps.

Pipe tracing is undertaken using Radiodetection RD500, Cat and Genny and flexitrace locators. These use a variety of techniques to detect and map underground pipework, in particular the generation of a radio signal that is transmitted through the pipework which is then picked up by the detector enabling a very accurate identification of the location of an underground asset. Pipework buried at depths of up to 3 meters can be detected using these methods. Step testing involves the isolation of discrete zones, then the monitoring of the variation of consumption within these thus enabling the particular zone(s) with the leak to be identified and isolated.

Top sounding-standard industry techniques using sounding and listening equipment. This ranges from the simplest technique that involves the use of a sounding stick pressed to the engineer's ear through to more sophisticated electronic detection systems using both noise and heat.

Transfer Testing

Transfer testing through the revision of supply arrangements, changing zonal areas in conjunction with step testing. This activity aids the process of leak location by positional iteration. This is particularly useful where the zones cannot be easily separated. Monitoring Service In addition to the reactive services offered we also provide usage monitoring service. This daily check is carried out via a remote reading device (transponder). The monitoring service can be used as an early warning system to detect water main bursts, reducing water loss and excessive bills.
