Murphy GMC (a joint venture between Murphy and GMC Utilities Ltd) has been awarded a £23m contract by SGN and Mutual Energy.
SGN and Mutual Energy are looking to bring gas supply to Dungannon, Coalisland, Magherafelt, Cookstown, Omagh, Enniskillen and Derrylin as part of the ‘Gas to the West’ scheme.
Kevin Buckley, Murphy Project Manager, said: “We are delighted to be awarded the contract and work in partnership with GMC Utilities Group. We will establish a base in Ballygawley and will be expecting work to take around 18 months, starting later this year. The project team have a great deal of experience and can’t wait to get started.”
Speaking at a photo-call at the Ballygawley site office SGN Natural Gas Director Danny O’Malley said “We’re very pleased to announce that we have finalised the appointment of the main works contractor, Murphy GMC, who will be building the pipeline for us in seven towns in Counties Tyrone, Derry and Fermanagh and, that we are now in a position to get this major new phase of the build underway starting on Monday 16th October.”
The contract sees the construction of 110 kilometres of a 250-400mm diameter intermediate pressure (7bar) pipeline. The pipeline will mostly be constructed along highways, travelling through Fermanagh, Tyrone and Armagh.
