GMC Utilities Group is pleased to announce the successful completion of the Finglas–Merville 110kV Cable Replacement Project, delivered on behalf of ESB Networks.

This significant undertaking involved the transfer of the Newbury 110 kV substation from its previous connection at Finglas Substation to a new connection at Belcamp Substation.
This strategic move was designed to enhance the reliability and capacity of the local electricity network, ensuring a more robust and secure power supply for the future. Our teams commenced site investigations on 14th October 2024, and the main construction works began as scheduled on 6th January 2025.
The project is now approaching its conclusion after approximately 11 months of diligent work, bringing essential upgrades to the network. The core purpose of these works was to facilitate the efficient transfer of the Newbury 110 kV substation.
This transfer was crucial for two key reasons: it significantly increased the maximum import capacity at the Newbury 110 kV substation, and it helped to relieve the existing strain on the Finglas Rural Network, ultimately improving overall network performance and stability.
