Preserving the Past, Protecting the Future: Victorian Sewer Rehabilitation Works Underway

At GMC Utilities Group, we take great pride in delivering specialist infrastructure solutions that combine technical precision with a deep respect for the legacy of the systems we work on. Our latest project, carried out on behalf of Uisce Éireann, is a prime example of this balance.

We are currently undertaking remedial repairs on a historic Victorian sewer line, ensuring its structural integrity and functionality for generations to come.

Part of a National Initiative: Uisce Éireann’s Sewer Rehabilitation Programme
This project forms part of Uisce Éireann’s ongoing Sewer Rehabilitation Programme, which aims to address blockages and structural defects in Ireland’s ageing sewer infrastructure.
The programme’s objectives include:
  • Improving the structural condition and long-term performance of critical wastewater systems
  • Reducing the risk of sewer collapses and flooding
  • Minimising disruption to customers caused by recurring maintenance issues
Project Scope and Methodology
This complex and highly specialised project involves the following key works:
  •  GRP Man Entry Relining of a deteriorated Victorian wastewater main located on Pigeon House Road and beneath Peel Ports South Bank Quay Container Terminal
  •  Controlled confined space man entry to complete comprehensive cleaning and CCTV inspection of the existing sewer system
  •  Structural rehabilitation through the installation of new GRP mainline liners, restoring strength, functionality, and durability
  •  Lateral connection tie-ins and grouting of the annular space between the new liner and the existing structure to ensure full structural competency

Engineering Excellence Meets Heritage Preservation

This work not only safeguards a vital piece of Dublin’s historical infrastructure but also ensures that the city’s modern wastewater network continues to serve its community reliably and efficiently.

By applying advanced techniques and materials like Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP) lining, we ensure a future-proof solution with minimal disruption to surrounding areas and businesses.

At GMC Utilities Group, we are proud to combine our engineering expertise with cutting-edge technology to protect critical utilities - respecting the past while building for the future.
